Days Gone Review – There are a lot of zombie games that can attract gamers’ attention. One of those games is Days Gone. The Days Gone game itself is a video game with zombie characters, which is classified as an action-adventure genre survival video game. The game Days Gone was released in 2019 by Bend Studio, while the publication was done by Sony Interactive Entertainment which can be played on the PlayStation 4.
The environment created by the game Days Gone is a situation where that year is two years after a global pandemic. The setting itself is set in post-apocalyptic Oregon. In this video game, the main character is Deacon St. John is trying to find the whereabouts of his wife, Sarah, who he believes is still alive. Deacon is now homeless because he is unable to support his own life.
Deacon’s action and adventure in this game begins with his quest to find his wife. In this game, you will play in the third person, allowing you to explore in an open environment. You can use a variety of weapons, from melee weapons to firearms to improvised weapons. Not only weapons, you can even use stealth so you can survive the attacks of humans who are hostile to you and the terrible zombies, called Freakers. The main mechanical device of this game is Deacon’s motorcycle. This motor can be used for the main means of transportation of the player.
Actually, Days Gone was originally planned to be released in 2018, but apparently there are several things that make the release of Days Gone postponed. After going through some pretty hard things, this video game was finally published on April 26, 2019. There were a number of compliments and criticisms for this game, but indeed the story, character development, and technical problems were not successful.
Days Gone Review: Storyline
In 2017, a viral pandemic tormented and wiped out nearly all of humanity. However, Deacon St. John, his wife Sarah, and their friend Boozer try to escape from the massacre. Before they fled, his wife was stabbed, leaving her seriously injured. Like it or not, Deacon had to evacuate his wife in a small capacity National Emergency Response Organization (NERO) helicopter. Due to limited capacity, Deacon and Boozer kept Sarah from behind.
Two years after the pandemic, civilization has become history and a number of transformed cannibals are rampant everywhere. These creatures are called Freakers and are always the biggest threat to humans who are still alive. Trying to make a living, Deacon and Boozer take jobs as bounty hunters in Oregon. Not having heard from his wife for a long time, plus the news that the NERO camp had been taken over by the Freakers, made Deacon believe that Sarah was dead. Deacon and Boozer have plans to go to the north, but Boozer’s arm is so badly burned that they have to delay their move and remain in their hideout until Boozer recovers.
Some time later, Deacon saw a NERO helicopter sight. This helicopter carried a number of research teams several times, so that Deacon’s hopes of finding Sarah again increased. Deacon managed to track down a NERO researcher who was evacuating Sarah, whereupon he said their helicopter had switched to a different camp mid-flight.
Unfortunately, Boozer’s health deteriorated and caused Boozer’s arm to be amputated due to an infection, which led Deacon to take him to Lost Lake camp. Meanwhile, Sarah was apparently evacuated to a military post at Crater Lake. Deacon finally met him with the militia leader where he used a false excuse to join. There, he finds Sarah who is apparently working to make a number of biological weapons so that he can carry out the destruction of Freakers forever. Deacon and Sarah go to Cloverdale’s lab, but it turns out that Cloverdale used his research to develop the virus that was used to create Freakers.
Deacon advised them to leave the Militia and finish healing in the previous lab, but there were a number of problems. Long story short, Deacon, Sarah, and Boozer returned to Lost Lake. There, he was again contacted by O’Brian again who warned Deacon that nothing could be used to stop NERO.
Days Gone Review: Gameplay
As previously mentioned, you as a player will be the controller of all actions performed by the Deacon St. character. John (Sam Witwer). Deacon himself is a former veteran of the Army for the United States of America. Two years after a global pandemic occurred, almost all of humanity on earth died, and a number of other humans who were left became zombies, a nocturnal creature that has the ability to evolve very quickly, called Freakers. In the video game Days Gone, Freakes consists of two types, namely Newts and Swarmers. Unlike zombies in general, which only categorize zombies only in human form, but in this game, animals that get viral infections such as wolves and bears are also categorized as Freakers.
You as a player in the Days Gone video can be victorious in the number of ways available, for example using your weapon, both melee and ranged weapons. In the video game, the weather system applied is dynamic weather and there are changes of day and night. This makes the zombies slow and weakens them during the day. However, because these zombies are nocturnal creatures, their strength, speed, and level of aggressiveness increase at night.
You will use Deacon’s motorbike as the primary means of transportation for your exploration. These motorbikes can be employed with spare parts so that you can improve their speed, endurance, maneuverability in performing their functions, and more. Not only that, you can also create weapons that can be used after you have used them for a long time, seize weapons from enemies, to create new items so that the battle conflict can be increased, so that your adrenaline rushes faster.

Days Gone Review: Development undertaken
The video game Days Gone first began production execution in early 2015. Initially, the working title of this video game was Dead Don’t Ride. A technical director from Bend Studio, Christopher Reese, said that their studio wanted the games they created to push the PS4 to a place that had never existed before and was felt by PS4 players. This video game uses Unreal Engine 4 and has a very strong narrative structure. The original score of this game was made by Nathan Whitehead.
Meanwhile, the game director of the Days Gone production is Jeff Ross, and John Garvin is the creative director and game writer. Initially, they were going to release this game in 2018, then it was postponed to February 22, 2019, and finally it was actually released on April 26, 2019 with the reason that the developer team could make improvements to the game.

Days Gone Review: Criticism Obtained
Through an aggregator review from Metacritic, Days Gone gets a number of reviews that may represent the majority of gamers. From these reviews, Days Gone received an average review, because a number of critics argued that the gameplay and design of the world shown were too promising, but in fact it felt backward. In addition, the storyline was also criticized for not providing many characteristics that make Deacon’s character a protagonist.
From IGN itself, Days Gone got a score of 6.5 out of 10. They thought that the video game Days Gone was too ‘bloated’, like a film that was played for a longer duration than it should have. According to them, this video game feels messy and quite confusing, but many meeting scenes are quite thrilling with a number of angry hordes of Freakers and fierce battles that occur between the two.
Actually, in this game itself lies a good game, but it is not visible because the storyline is too complicated, winding, repetition of missions, and too many obligations that need to be done without paying more attention to small details.
Meanwhile, Game Informer’s reviews give a score of 7.8 out of 10. They say that Days Gone actually has a pretty good gameplay foundation, where there are scarce supplies of survival items and zombies that are always threatening to become a whip to escape. Unfortunately, the ability to tell the story is too limited.
